Silao is a city in the west-central part of the state of Guanajuato in Mexico. Silao is a center of agricultural and industrial activity of the Mexican Bajio (Silao, Leon, Guanajuato, Irapuato, Salamanca and Celaya). Its weather is semi-arid in the whole region.
Its name came from origin Otomi and Purépecha languages. Tzinacua loosely translates into 'place of dense fog', derived from the quantity of thermal waters surrounding the area. Its official name was given in July of 1861 as Silao de la Victoria.
